Pozo de Banfield

The Pozo de Banfield, located in Villa Centenario, Greater Buenos Aires, is a former police station that served as a clandestine detention center during Argentina's military dictatorship from 1974 to 1978. This three-storey building was part of the notorious Circuito Camps and played a significant role in the forced disappearances of individuals, including pregnant women who gave birth while detained. The site is historically significant, having housed 309 detainees, with many still unidentified. In 2006, it was transformed into a memory site to honor the victims and educate the public about the human rights abuses that occurred during this dark period in Argentine history. Today, it serves as a poignant reminder of the past and a place for reflection and remembrance.
