Norton Tower

Norton Tower is a historic ruined building located near Rylstone in North Yorkshire, England. Constructed around 1540 as a hunting lodge for the Norton family, it served as a venue for banqueting and a symbol of their hunting rights against the rival Clifford family. Following the Nortons' involvement in the Rising of the North in 1569, the tower was demolished by the Cliffords. The ruins, which are built of gritstone and measure approximately 10 by 15 meters, were listed as grade II in 1969 and have undergone limited conservation efforts, including significant work in 2017. The site features remnants of a fireplace and staircase, making it a point of interest for both tourists and researchers exploring the region's history.
