City Tavern excavations during reconstruction

Archaeological excavations at the City Tavern site in the 1970s and 1980s uncovered 18th-century foundations, cellar features, privy deposits, and household and tavern-related artifacts including ceramics, glass, nails, and coins. Those findings guided the reconstruction of the historic tavern and contributed primary material evidence for interpreting colonial urban tavern life. Artifacts and stratigraphic information from the project are documented in site reports used by historians and conservators.
