Stanley Tavern

The Stanley Tavern, located at 371 Main Street in Hopkinton, New Hampshire, is a historic tavern building dating back to around 1791. Built by Theophilus Stanley, it is the only surviving tavern from the late 18th and early 19th century in the area, which once competed with Concord to be the state capital. The tavern served as a gathering place for legislators during their sessions and has a rich history of various commercial and residential uses since it ceased operations as a tavern in 1864. The building is notable for its Georgian architecture and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in early American history.
