Hotel Alexandra (Boston)

The Hotel Alexandra, a historic High Victorian Gothic building in Boston's Roxbury neighborhood, was constructed in the 1870s and features a striking sandstone façade. Originally opened in 1875, it was developed by the Walworth brothers, pioneers in steam technology, and included a rare steam-powered elevator. The hotel has witnessed significant changes over the years, transitioning from a bustling establishment to a state of desolation by the late 20th century. Acquired by the Church of Scientology in 2008, the hotel has been the subject of various redevelopment proposals, including plans for a new hotel tower and condominiums. As of early 2025, the building remains vacant, with ongoing efforts to restore its historic charm and expand its facilities.
