826 Valencia (Pirate Supply Store and Writing Center)

826 Valencia is a nonprofit youth writing and tutoring center founded in 2002 by writer Dave Eggers and educator Nínive Calegari. The organization operates a themed retail storefront, the Pirate Supply Store, whose proceeds support free creative writing and tutoring programs for students in the San Francisco Bay Area. 826 Valencia has served as a model for similarly themed writing centers in other cities and hosts public events, workshops, and publishing opportunities for young writers. The storefront and center are located in the Mission District.
