Federal Hall-Washington's first presidential oath

Federal Hall National Memorial stands on the site where George Washington took the oath of office as the first President of the United States on April 30, 1789. The present sandstone building at this location served historically as the U.S. Customs House and was later designated a national memorial commemorating the early federal government. The site is part of Lower Manhattan's documented role as the first capital under the Constitution.
