Lackey-Overbeck House

The Lackey-Overbeck House, located in the historic district of Cambridge City, Indiana, is a remarkable example of canal boom-era architecture, built around 1835 by architect Ira Lackey. This two-story frame dwelling showcases Federal and Greek Revival design elements, with a notable rear wing added in 1850. In 1882, the house became home to the Overbeck family, who transformed it into a pottery studio known as Overbeck Pottery. The Overbeck sisters, particularly Margaret, an art teacher, created distinctive pottery celebrated for its secret glazes and colors, now featured in museums nationwide. The house was recognized for its historical significance and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, making it a fascinating site for tourists and researchers alike.
