Col Alto

Col Alto is a historic house located in Lexington, Virginia, originally built around 1827 in Georgian style. The home features a two-story, double-pile, three-bay brick structure with a hipped roof. In the 1930s, architect William Lawrence Bottomley remodeled the house, adding a distinctive Palladian style veranda. The property includes a barn and log cabin, and it was once home to notable figures such as Congressman James McDowell and Congressman Henry St. George Tucker III. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990, Col Alto now operates as a Hampton Inn and Suites by Hilton, making it a unique destination for tourists and researchers interested in American history and architecture.
