Placentia Plantation

Placentia Plantation, established in the 18th century near Savannah, Georgia, offers a glimpse into the region's agricultural history and the legacy of slavery. Originally inherited by Josiah Tattnall Jr., the plantation was later divided into parcels for farming rice, cotton, and corn. Today, part of the site is occupied by Savannah State University, which includes a historic colored cemetery. A memorial garden is currently being developed to honor those buried there. The Placentia Canal, constructed in the late 19th century, adds to the area's historical significance. The plantation is also referenced in contemporary literature, highlighting its enduring presence in cultural narratives.
