Modulightor Building

The Modulightor Building, located at 246 East 58th Street in Midtown East, Manhattan, is a unique commercial structure designed by architect Paul Rudolph, completed in 1993. This building is notable for its striking facade of interlocking white I-beams and its blend of modern and historical elements, having been an overhaul of a 19th-century townhouse. The building houses Modulightor, a lighting company co-founded by Rudolph, and features the Paul Rudolph Institute for Modern Architecture. The upper stories, added in 2016 by Mark Squeo, complement the original design. The building's interior includes a distinctive duplex with a modern aesthetic, showcasing floating houseplants and cantilevered staircases. As a landmark, it reflects Rudolph's architectural legacy and the evolution of the surrounding Design District, making it an interesting stop for tourists and researchers alike.
