Girard College Founder's Hall

Founder's Hall is the monumental central building of Girard College, constructed in the mid-19th century to house the boarding school established by Stephen Girard's will. The building was designed by architect Thomas U. Walter and exemplifies Greek Revival architecture with a broad classical portico and colossal Ionic columns. Walter later served as Architect of the Capitol, and Founder's Hall remains the dominant architectural feature of the Girard College campus.
