The Menil Collection and Byzantine Fresco Chapel

The Menil Collection, founded by John and Dominique de Menil and opened as a public museum in 1987, houses a broad collection of modern and contemporary art including significant Surrealist and African artworks. The museum campus includes the Byzantine Fresco Chapel, built to conserve and exhibit sixth-century frescoes acquired by the Menils. Admission to the Menil Collection is free to the public.
