Krauss Building

The Krauss Building is a historic landmark located at the intersection of Canal Street and Basin Street in New Orleans, Louisiana. Originally opened in 1903 as the Krauss Department Store, it served the community for over 90 years, becoming known for its unique offerings and exceptional customer service. The store was notable for being the first in the area to install air conditioning and escalators. After closing in 1997, the building remained vacant for nearly 11 years before being redeveloped into luxury condominiums, now known as 1201 Canal, which features 233 upscale residences and retail space.
