Spirit of Detroit (Marshall Fredericks)

A large bronze sculpture by Marshall Fredericks, installed in 1958 in the lobby of the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center. The figure holds a bronze sphere in one hand and a bronze family group in the other and was dedicated as a symbol of the city. The sculpture has been used in official city ceremonies and is widely recognized as an emblem of Detroit.
