The Heidelberg Project - outdoor community art environment

The Heidelberg Project is an outdoor, block-by-block community art environment created by artist Tyree Guyton beginning in 1986 on Heidelberg Street. It uses painted houses, found objects, and large-scale installations to address urban decay and community renewal and has been both celebrated and targeted by arson and removal over the years. The project operates as a nonprofit organization and remains an active site for public art, tours, and local events.
