Mission Concepcion

Mission Concepción, established in 1711 by Franciscan Friars, is a historic site located in San Antonio, Texas. Originally founded to convert the Hasinai people to Catholicism, it is now recognized as the oldest unrestored stone church in America. The mission played a significant role during the Texas Revolution, notably in the Battle of Concepción in 1835. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1970 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015, it features a sanctuary, nave, convento, and granary, with remnants of vibrant frescoes. Visitors can witness Catholic Mass every Sunday and experience a unique solar alignment phenomenon each August 15, coinciding with the feast day of the Assumption of Mary.
