Galle Fort Post Office

The Galle Fort Post Office, established in 1820, is a historic site located within the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Galle Fort in Sri Lanka. Originally opened on Moor Street, it was one of the first five post offices in the British colony. The post office has a rich history, having been housed in a building that served various functions during the Dutch and British occupations, including as the Governor's residence and a Trade Office for the Dutch East India Company. The current structure, built from coral stone with a distinctive terracotta roof, features a portico supported by stone pillars. Although it has undergone several renovations, the building faced significant structural issues, leading to its temporary closure in 2019. The Galle Fort Post Office remains a symbol of the area's colonial past and is a point of interest for tourists and researchers alike.
