Pennsylvania Hospital - America's first hospital

Pennsylvania Hospital was founded in 1751 by Benjamin Franklin and Dr. Thomas Bond and is widely recognized as the first hospital in what would become the United States. Located near Independence Mall, the hospital was established to care for the sick and mentally ill and has operated continuously in Philadelphia since the 18th century.
