Seaman-Drake Arch

The Seaman-Drake Arch, also known as the Inwood Arch, is a historic structure located in the Inwood neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. Built in 1855 from locally quarried Inwood marble, this 35-foot tall arch served as the gateway to the Seaman family estate. Modeled after the Arc de Triomphe, the arch is now partially obscured by commercial buildings and has suffered from decay and graffiti. Once a grand entrance to a hilltop mansion, the arch has a rich history, including its use as a clubhouse and later as part of a transmission repair shop. Despite efforts to landmark the site, it remains unprotected, yet the current owner is committed to preserving it. Visitors can find a tranquil retreat within its ivy-covered walls, offering a glimpse into the area's storied past.
