Buena Vista Cafe (introduction of Irish coffee to San Francisco)

The Buena Vista Cafe at Fisherman's Wharf began serving Irish coffee in 1952 after a local travel writer brought the recipe from Ireland and the cafe perfected its preparation for American customers. The Buena Vista's version of Irish coffee became widely popular and is credited with popularizing the drink in the United States. The café has operated on Hyde Street since the mid-20th century and remains a tourist and local landmark known for that specialty.
