Mission San Antonio de Valero (The Alamo)

Originally founded as Mission San Antonio de Valero in 1718 as part of the Spanish mission system, the site later became commonly known as the Alamo. The mission chapel's remaining arched façade is the most recognizable remnant of the church building, and the site was the location of the 1836 Battle of the Alamo during the Texas Revolution. The Alamo chapel is preserved as a historic landmark and museum documenting both its mission-era and revolutionary-era histories.
