Bertram House

Bertram House, located on the Hiddingh Campus of the University of Cape Town, is a significant example of early Georgian architecture in South Africa. Built between 1839 and 1854 by John Barker, the house is named after his late wife and is the only unpainted red brick structure of its kind in the city. Declared a national monument in 1962, it has been restored to reflect its original glory and now serves as a museum housing the Anne Lidderdale Collection, featuring Georgian furniture and porcelain. The museum also hosts exhibitions, book launches, and music concerts, making it a vibrant cultural hub for visitors.
