Opposition House

Opposition House is a historic double house located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, built in 1807 by Judge Francis Dana as a response to the planned construction of Harvard Street across his estate. This unique 'spite house' was strategically placed along the intended route of the road, which was ultimately rerouted. The house, notable for its hip roof and wood-frame structure, was relocated in the 1860s and is recognized as the oldest surviving house on Dana Hill. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in local history.
