Human remains recovered during Alamo Plaza archaeology

The Alamo (Mission San Antonio de Valero) at Alamo Plaza is an 18th-century mission and the site of the 1836 Battle of the Alamo. Archaeological work during Alamo Plaza renovations and the Alamo Conservation Project in the 2010s recovered human skeletal remains and funerary deposits dating to Spanish colonial and early 19th-century contexts. The discovery, curation, and disposition of those remains were documented and generated public and professional debate over conservation and reburial.
