Former British Consulate in Zhenjiang

The Former British Consulate, located in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province, China, is a historic building established in 1864 during the British Concession era. Originally built on Yuntai Mountain, it was destroyed in riots in 1888 and rebuilt by 1890, covering 17 acres. The consulate was returned to the Chinese government in 1929 and now houses the Zhenjiang Museum, established in 1958. The site features five well-arranged colonial-style buildings, reflecting Zhenjiang's significance as a trade hub in the late 19th century. In 1996, it was designated a Major Site Protected for Its Historical and Cultural Value, making it a notable destination for tourists and researchers interested in colonial architecture and history.
