The Guardian Building - 'Cathedral of Finance' Art Deco landmark

The Guardian Building at 500 Griswold Street was completed in 1929 and designed by architect Wirt C. Rowland as a flagship Art Deco skyscraper for Union Trust. The interior features extensive Pewabic tile, colorful mosaics, and Native American and Aztec-inspired ornamentation, making it an unusually ornate example of American Art Deco. The building is designated a National Historic Landmark and is locally nicknamed the 'Cathedral of Finance.'
