Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library (Mount Vernon Square)

The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, designed by architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, opened in 1972 as the central branch of the D.C. Public Library. It underwent an extensive renovation and modernization from 2017 to 2020 and reopened with expanded community and learning spaces. The building is both an architectural landmark of modernism in the city and an active public library serving the Mount Vernon Square neighborhood.
