John Mathias House

The John Mathias House, also known as the Mathias Homestead, is a historic home located in Mathias, Hardy County, West Virginia. Built in two phases, the older section dates back to around 1797, while the newer section was constructed around 1825. This unique structure features two hewn-log sections connected by a frame 'dog trot' entryway. The house served as the residence for the Mathias family for 165 years before being transferred to the Mathias Civic Center Association in 1974. It was recognized for its historical significance and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, making it an intriguing site for tourists and researchers interested in early American architecture and local history.
