Robert E. Lee Building

The Robert E. Lee Building, located at 239 North Lamar Street in Jackson, Mississippi, was originally constructed as the Robert E. Lee Hotel in 1930. It served as a hotel until its closure in 1964, when it refused to comply with the Civil Rights Act by admitting African Americans. Today, the building houses various state government offices, including the Mississippi Department of Mental Health and the Board of Cosmetology, making it a significant site for both historical and governmental activities in the region.
