Matthias Hansen House

The Matthias Hansen House, a Renaissance-style townhouse located at Amagertorv No. 6 in central Copenhagen, Denmark, was built in 1616 and is one of the few structures to survive the devastating Copenhagen Fires of 1728 and 1795. Originally constructed for Matthias Hansen, a city council member and mayor, the building has a rich history, having housed notable figures such as composer Emil Hartmann. Over the centuries, it has changed hands multiple times, serving various purposes including a vinegar manufactory and later becoming the headquarters for the insurance company Hafnia. Today, it is home to a flagship store for the Royal Copenhagen porcelain factory, showcasing its historical significance and architectural beauty, characterized by its red brick facade and distinctive double Dutch gable.
