Central University Library, Bucharest

The 'Carol I' Central University Library in Bucharest, Romania, is a historic library established in 1895, originally designed by French architect Paul Gottereau. Located near the National Museum of Art, it has a rich history, evolving from the Central State Library to a dedicated university library. The collection has grown significantly, from 3,400 volumes at its inception to over 2 million by 1970. Despite suffering a devastating fire during the Romanian Revolution in 1989, the library was modernized and reopened in 2001. It also supports a network of specialized branch libraries, enhancing its role as a vital educational resource.
