YWCA Building (Peoria, Illinois)

The YWCA Building in Peoria, Illinois, constructed in 1928 and designed by Hewitt, Emerson & Gregg, is a historic site listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 2007. Originally serving as a community hub with an auditorium, swimming pool, and residential facilities, it was dedicated in 1929 after the local YWCA raised $350,000 in just eight days. The building ceased operations as a YWCA in 2003 and underwent significant renovations to become New Hope Apartments in 2008, providing supportive housing with 79 apartments. This transformation cost nearly $8 million and creatively utilized the existing structure, including the former gymnasium and pool area.
