Denver International Airport noncontiguous municipal territory

Denver International Airport is located at 8500 Peña Blvd and is part of the City and County of Denver. Because Denver annexed the airport land, the airport lies within Denver’s jurisdiction but is geographically separated from much of the city by surrounding unincorporated Adams County and other municipalities. That annexation created a noncontiguous portion of Denver’s municipal boundary that is often noted as a local boundary oddity. The airport opened in 1995 and remains administratively part of Denver despite the separation.
