Former Pittsburgh Wash House and Public Baths Building

Located in the Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh, the Former Pittsburgh Wash House and Public Baths Building is a historic site built in 1904 in the Romanesque Revival architectural style. Initially established to provide bathing facilities for working-class families, it was funded by notable philanthropists such as Henry W. Phipps Jr. and George Westinghouse. The building featured not only bathing facilities but also laundry services, a clothing exchange, and community spaces. It was the third public wash house in the U.S. and served the community until its closure in 1961. Designated a historic landmark in 2018, it now operates as office space, showcasing its architectural significance and historical importance in Pittsburgh's development.
