The Hermitage (New Castle, Delaware)

The Hermitage was a historic home in New Castle, Delaware, built between 1700 and 1818, featuring three brick sections, including a west wing and a kitchen wing. Constructed by U.S. Senator Nicholas Van Dyke as a family retreat, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. Tragically, the house suffered extensive fire damage in 2007 due to arson, leading to the destruction of its oldest sections. The remains were ultimately demolished in 2009, marking the end of a significant piece of Delaware's architectural history.
