Lihiwai

Lihiwai is a historic house in Honolulu, Hawaii, once the residence of Territorial Governor George R. Carter. Designed by renowned architects Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue and Hardie Phillip, it was built between 1927 and 1929 and showcases Mission Revival and Mediterranean Revival architectural styles. The house features 40 rooms, including spacious quarters for servants and unique design elements influenced by Governor Carter's wife, Helen Strong Carter. After the Carters' occupancy, the house served military personnel during World War II and has since been recognized on the National Register of Historic Places. Visitors can appreciate its historical significance and architectural beauty, set within a 10-acre estate.
