159–161 Fore Street

159–161 Fore Street, also known as The Stephenson Home, was a historic house in Portland, Maine, notable as the birthplace of renowned poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in 1807. Built in 1784, it originally served as the residence of Captain Samuel Stephenson, Longfellow's uncle. Despite efforts by the International Longfellow Society to preserve the building due to its literary significance, it was demolished in 1955. Today, the site is home to a Residence Inn by Marriott, marked by a boulder commemorating its connection to Longfellow, making it a point of interest for both tourists and researchers.
