Novo Brdo Fortress

Novo Brdo Fortress, a medieval Serbian fortress located in Kosovo, dates back to the late 13th century and was built by King Stephen Uroš II Milutin to protect valuable mines in the area. Renowned for its silver, the fortress was a key defensive structure during the Serbian Despotate, housing a diverse population of miners and merchants. The fortress features an Upper Town and Lower Town, with eight towers and three gates, surrounded by a large dry moat. Declared a Monument of Culture of Exceptional Importance in 1948, it remains a significant archaeological site and a protected cultural heritage site in Kosovo, attracting tourists and researchers interested in medieval history and architecture.
