Cronkhill

Cronkhill, located in Atcham, Shropshire, is a remarkable country house designed by the renowned architect John Nash in 1802. Recognized as the earliest Italianate villa in England, it showcases a unique blend of influences from the Italian countryside and the picturesque style of Claude Lorrain. The house features a distinctive architectural design with a rectangular two-storey block flanked by a circular and a square tower, linked by a loggia. Although it faced criticism for some of its design elements, Cronkhill remains a Grade I listed building and is celebrated for its historical significance. After being gifted to the National Trust, it underwent a major restoration in 2016 to preserve its original charm. Visitors can explore its elegantly simple interior, which includes a drawing room, library, and dining room, making it a fascinating destination for tourists and researchers alike.
