National Museum of American History

The Smithsonian National Museum of American History opened in 1964 and holds artifacts documenting U.S. social, political, cultural, and scientific history. Its collections include the original Star-Spangled Banner flag that inspired the national anthem and numerous presidential artifacts, pop-culture objects, and exhibition spaces. The museum is located on the National Mall and offers public programs, research resources, and rotating exhibitions.
