Vallen Castle

Vallen Castle, located in Våxtorp, Halland County, Sweden, has a rich history dating back to the 13th century when it was first settled by knight Peder Laxmand. The estate changed hands several times, notably owned by the Laxmand brothers by 1400. Throughout its history, the castle faced destruction during conflicts between Sweden and Denmark. In 1654, the last Danish owner ceded the property to Sweden, and it was acquired by Magnus Durell, a county governor. His wife, Birgitta Durell, transformed the estate into a thriving industry, producing knitted socks for the Swedish army, a venture that lasted over a century and contributed to the local economy.
