Essex County Home and Farm

The Essex County Home and Farm, also known as Whallonsburg County Home and Infirmary, is a historic site located in Whallonsburg, New York. This former almshouse and infirmary features a collection of seven contributing buildings, including a prominent 2-story dormitory built in 1860 and a 2+1⁄2-story infirmary constructed in 1899. Visitors can explore the well-preserved brick structures, farm buildings, and the institution's cemetery, offering a glimpse into the region's social history. The site was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982 and ceased operations in 1980, making it a fascinating destination for history enthusiasts and researchers alike.
