Yard of Bricks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

When the Indianapolis Motor Speedway was paved in 1909 it was covered with approximately 3.2 million bricks; a three-foot strip of those original bricks remains at the start/finish line and is known as the "Yard of Bricks." The Yard of Bricks is a prominent visual and ceremonial landmark at the track, where winning drivers traditionally kiss the bricks after Indianapolis 500 victories. The Speedway campus also incorporates brickwork and commemorative displays tied to the track's early history.
