The Elgin Block

The Elgin Block, completed in 1872, is a historic Italianate-style brick building in Elgin, Iowa. It was the first major brick structure in the town and played a crucial role in its development after the nearby railroad depot was established in Lutra. The building features four storefronts on the ground floor, with apartments above and a concert hall on the second floor of two units. The third floor of one unit served as a lodge for various fraternal organizations. Recognized for its historical significance, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008, making it a noteworthy site for tourists and researchers interested in local history and architecture.
