Marine Barracks (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania)

The Marine Barracks, located at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, is a historic site built in 1901 by the United States Marine Corps and designed by architect Henry Ives Cobb. This four-story building, made of red brick and gypsum block, features distinctive architectural elements such as a central rounded archway and a tile roof. It played a significant role in naval aviation history, serving as a takeoff and landing site for some of the first Naval Aviators. The barracks was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 and remains an occupied facility by the Marine Corps, making it a point of interest for both tourists and researchers exploring military history.
