Pennsylvania Hospital

Founded in 1751 by Benjamin Franklin and Dr. Thomas Bond, Pennsylvania Hospital is recognized as the nation's first hospital. Franklin served on its original board of managers, and the institution's early purpose was to care for the sick and the poor in colonial Philadelphia. The hospital's historic Founders Building and continuing medical campus are part of its long operational history.
