House of Popkov

The House of Popkov is a historic mansion located in the heart of Taganrog, built in 1808 in the style of Russian provincial classicism. Notable for its symmetrical facade adorned with six Doric columns and a triangular pediment, the building has a rich history, having served as the residence of the city's mayor and later housing significant figures, including the mother of renowned writer A. P. Chekhov. Over the years, it transitioned from private ownership to serving various public functions, including a sanatorium during World War I.
