Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

Isabella Stewart Gardner founded the museum that bears her name and opened it to the public in 1903 to display her personal art collection arranged in a Venetian-style palace. Gardner personally curated the galleries and stipulated that the collection's arrangement should remain unchanged after her death. The museum remains in the building she commissioned and is known for both its holdings and the unsolved 1990 art theft.
