Bach House (Köthen)

Bach House in Köthen, Germany, is a historic property where the renowned composer Johann Sebastian Bach lived from 1719 to 1723 while serving Prince Leopold of Anhalt-Köthen. This building, completed in 1719, is notable for being the only surviving residence associated with Bach during this period, as his first home in the area has since been demolished. The house, located on Wallstraße, is believed to have also hosted the court orchestra. During his time here, Bach experienced significant personal events, including the death of his first wife, Maria Barbara, in 1720, and his marriage to Anna Magdalena in 1721. The Bach family later relocated to Leipzig in 1723, making this site a key location for understanding the composer's life and work.
